Mining Roam Token
Mining Roam Token is the process of Roam actively promoting the sharing of Wi-Fi services in private and public spaces, including venues such as cafes, shopping plazas, public transportation stations, and commercial buildings. Roam implements a Proof-of-Service mining algorithm. This algorithm validates the ongoing commitment of honest miners to provide the required network services. Successful miners are rewarded with tokens, and their efforts help maintain the integrity and decentralization of the blockchain. Mining tokens are a fundamental component of many cryptocurrency networks, serving as the backbone of our project.
With Roam, the routers providing connections to the network (from locations around the world) function as blockchain nodes that work together to verify special credentials known as Decentralized Identifiers (DIDs). So although a user can connect to WiFi at any local router, the entire network of routers completes the DID verification process.
As a result of this on-chain authentication process for WiFi logins, these routers create tokens in a mining process. Consequently, the routers are known as Roam miners, which anyone can purchase and host. The more OpenRoaming WiFi connections a given miner establishes the more tokens it issues for its owner.
This mining process enables a decentralized WiFi deployment model where individuals are incentivized to host their own miner, providing public WiFi access for maximum rewards. Miner hosts can still track their rewards through the Roam app.
